I recently had the pleasure of working with Melanie Mathieu, the owner of Melanie Mathieu Photography, and it was WONDERFUL! Since I was so happy with my experience, I’d love to share a few thoughts and my experience.
Leading up to the shoot:
After locking in our time, Melanie sent me two things: a standard contract and an insightful questionnaire. The questionnaire included questions like, “What will you miss most about this point in your life?”, and was designed to setup the style of shoot. Some of the questions made me a bit sad, but more so made me happy that I was going to capture this point in my life on camera.
During the shoot:
Melanie arrived at my house, on time, and greeted me with a smile. She’s has a reserved personality, but is very approachable and we were all quite comfortable with her, including my toddler, who warmed up to her very quickly.
She gave a brief introduction of what to expect and then we got started. It took a little bit for my husband and I to get into a groove, but we took the lead from our toddler, who led the way while my husband and I took turns playing with her. To be honest, most of the time I didn’t even realize Melanie was capturing the moments. Every now and then, she’s stop us to make a suggestion or I would request a specific shot, but all in all, time went by quickly and it was really fun.
The most notable thing about shooting in my house and with this style of photography, was that it was very relaxing with a toddler. I never felt anxious or overwhelmed, and really enjoyed the experience. I think this was partly due to the style of photography, plus Melanie’s relaxed personality.
Following the shoot:
After wrapping up our 90 minute shoot, I received an email thanking me for the session, and a sneak peek of some of the pictures. Then only a few days later, I received a login to a private album of all the pictures from our shoots…and wow, they were amazing! I guess that I wasn’t really sure what to expect, but I was blown away by the result.
Melanie was able to captured moments I didn’t even realize happened, and of which I didn’t even realize she captured. It was incredible.
The thing I loved the most, she was able to capture all of these perfect, natural moments with my family…which are priceless.
After selecting the pictures that I wanted in the online album, I shipped them back to Melanie and she turned them around in only a couple days, providing us with all the high-res images for our safe keeping.
Would I recommend Melanie?
YES! I can’t emphasize this enough, she’s amazing! Not only did she capture many candid pictures of my family, she’s also very professional and a lovely person.
I’m so incredibly happy that I was able to connect with Melanie, as she’s a breath of fresh air and I’ll savour these pictures forever.
