Halloween is over and may be you are feeling a little like you over indulged on some of that delicious candy that the kids worked so hard traipsing around the streets to collect, and of course, there is the candy that just happen to be left over in your treat bowl.

One holiday is over and another is about to begin. Yes, get ready for the chimes of Christmas bells, the smell of pie, and gingerbread men calling your name. May be get in to your gym routine before the festive season instead of in January when the crowds of people starting the new year’s resolution take over.

Look for what you want in a gym. Do you want somewhere you can take the kids with you, a place that has a pool or a skate rink, somewhere that offers classes after the school run, etc? Do your research so you know that you can commit to going should you decide buy memberships.

Go local. With children running around, there is little time to fit in workouts, so check to see what facilities are close to you and if they offer the amenities that you are searching for. A short drive will keep you motivated to go.

When looking in to gyms look for deals. Just like anything you want to try before you commit. For example, The City of Ottawa offer a Try It! program where you can register and have 30 days to try three classes or sessions for free! You can try an aquafit, group fitness, and indoor cycling class. You can also use the squash or racquetball court, weight and cardio rooms, and check out a public skating session.

Not only does the gym offer you a great place to get fit, but also great for a bit of “me” time, which everyone needs from time to time.
