‘Tis the season for us to spend money on costumes that our kids will grow out of in two months, and send them out with giant bags to be filled with sugary goodness that will have them bouncing off the walls for weeks.
Halloween is enough to send any sane mother in to a head spin as you organise the parties (and of course, they can not wear the same costume to every party!), the Halloween themed breakfast, lunch and dinner, crafts, and of course your treats for the little doorbell ringers. Any other moms feeling the Pinterest pressure?
While some of our little monsters, sorry angels, will be happily munching on a Coffee Crisp or dribbling Smarties, there are some kids out there who can’t due to allergies or intolerances. But why should they miss out on the fun?
some kids can’t have candy because of allergies
There are alternatives out there to candy, ones that go beyond stickers and erasers. For example, The City of Ottawa run a Trick or Swim or Skate program.
For just $10 (that’s less then a box of candies), you can purchase 10 Trick or Swim or Skate passes. These passes are on sale until October 31 and can be redeemed by kids from aged three to 15 from November 1, 2017 to January 31, 2018. Just check out the above link for participating locations.
This may mean a little more candy for you and may be the perfect solution to stop rational moms from turning into frantic zombies on good old Hallows’ Eve.
