There are too many things that you HAVE to do with your kids these days, and it you don’t do them, you’re a terrible mother and your children will become serial killers. Ok…that’s a bit dramatic, but you get my point. So here’s my only advice to add to your already lengthy list of things you have to do…just FUCK IT!
Here are a few examples of when I think it’s ok to say “FUCK IT!”:
Why wake a sleeping baby?
If you have a healthy newborn who’s steadily gaining weight, will it be the end of the world if you don’t wake up the baby every 3 hours? FUCK IT, let the baby sleep.
Formula is not poison.
Everybody SCREAMS breast is best, but FUCK IT! If you haven’t slept in days, your baby is hungry, and you’re about to throw the baby out the window…walk to the kitchen right now and warm up that bottle of formula…you’re not a bad mother and it will not effect your child in the long run.
Sleeping on their stomach doesn’t make you a bad mother.
If your baby screams bloody murder every time they sleep on their back, but they sleep peacefully on their stomach…FUCK IT, go buy a video monitor and let them sleep on their stomach.
Their face does not ALWAYS need to be clean.
Do people give you shit when your kid’s face is covered in snot or food? FUCK IT, what’s going to happen to them if they have some old Mum Mum stuck to their cheek? This doesn’t mean you’re a bad parent and your child will not die…let them save it for a snack for later.
Swings will not destroy your child.
Will it effect their long term development if your baby sleeps in a swing vs. a bassinet…no! So FUCK IT and take the win that your child is sleeping at all…go watch some TV or paint your nails.
Who said old food and toilet paper can’t be a toy?
If your toddler is happy playing their peanut butter sandwich from lunch (instead of the toys they’re surrounded by), why would you take it away from them? FUCK what you should do, just let them peacefully play.
Real clothes are overrated.
Struggling to get your toddler dressed? FUCK IT, let them go to public in their pjs, who’s it going to hurt? You got them out of the house with clothes on, you’re already ahead.
Saying FUCK IT doesn’t mean you don’t care, it just means that you don’t obsess over the small details that won’t matter in the long run. It’s about knowing that you’re doing the best you can for your child, and what other people say doesn’t matter because YOU know your child better than anybody else. It’s about not folding to societal pressure and doing what they think you should be doing.
So, when you’re stressed or feel like the worst parent ever…FUCK IT…because you’re already doing a great job!
